Why is organization trending?
When I started this business a year and a half ago, I never imagined that organizing would be the beef of my business.
My main focus was design and decor, but I figured since I also love to organize, I may as well offer it as a secondary service- a way to help people with both design AND functionality.
Little did I know, it would quickly become the bones of the business. I was shocked by the popularity of an organizing service! Organizing just comes naturally to me, it always has. I’m nerdy like that. 😂 In all seriousness, over the last 18 months it’s had me wondering- why is organizing trending now more than ever?
I’ve read several articles and listened to lots of professional organizers and it’s given me some insight.
A growing digital marketplace: Lately, I feel like all we see are organizing shows streaming on Netflix, and social media influencers dedicated to showing off their organizing with links to products they share! I’ll have to admit, during my first face to face consultations with clients I always remind them that this isn’t Netflix or Instagram. It’s a process that will take more than a few minutes, and often looks worse before it looks better. It’s very satisfying to see a space become organized, so it’s no wonder this has helped boost organizing popularity!
Consumers need to do more with less space: A growing number of millinials and baby boomers are opting for urban living, or downsizing. Space is at a premium, and must be used to its fullest potential. In these situations, living with less, and organized systems are the key!
Multigenerational living: Young adults are moving back home with their parents, and aging parents are moving in with their adult children. More people moving into a space can quickly turn into a real life episode of Hoarders. Purging, donating, and organizing are necessary for these homes to function efficiently.
I’m sure there are some other reasons that I haven’t listed, but based on what I’ve read and my experience, these are definitely some of the top reasons organizing seems to be trending.
#1 is definitely most relatable for me! I won’t say how many times I’ve watched Get Organized on Netflix, nor will I tell you how many influencers I follow on social media that share my love for organizing. Just rest assured it never gets old for me. 😂
