Family Command Center

We all have that one area in our house that just collects junk, don’t we?! Mail, bills, school papers, all the things. This space can quickly become an awful eye sore, a great way to miss or forget something and can start your day off feeling cluttered and out of sorts every time you walk by it! Having a family command center will solve this problem for you.

  • If you keep putting this neglected area off, this is your sign to get it done!

  • Pick a space that is easily accessible to all family members, yet doesn’t get in the way.

  • Make a list of the things you want this area to house. My suggestions are:

    • Calendar

    • Mail

      • Action: Bills to be paid, invitations to RSVP to, etc.

      • File: Bills after they are paid, IRA updates, health insurance EOBs, etc.

      • Receipts: Business related and personal.

  • School Papers

    • An area for each kiddo. This will house their lunch menu for easy access, any important notes sent home, that beginning of the year info. each teacher typically hands out-I like to keep this here to refer to throughout the year.

  • Extra Curricular info.

    • This can be a shared folder, housing all sporting and activity info.

  • Home Management

    • Notebook that lists all service provider phone numbers and anything that has to do with the home (stay tuned for more info on this handy home bible!)

  • Each area will need its own file folder labeled for what it’s for. A simple way to quickly and easily file everything away.

  • Grab some sort of shelving or container to house the folders. My favorites are linked below. These will all depend on the type of space you pick (over the pantry door, desk area in the kitchen, mud room, laundry room, etc.)

  • Hang the calendar right next to this area for everyone to see. Also, this makes it easily accessible as you go through all of the incoming information to enter on the shared schedule. Digital calendars are great and I use that too, but there’s just something about writing it down for everyone to see at a quick glance that still feels necessary.

  • Easy peasy! I promise you won’t regret getting this space set up in your home! This is a simple and efficient system that will set you and your family up for success.

  • If you're having trouble starting, schedule a consultation with me and we’ll get this done in no time. I also offer monthly subscriptions to come in for a refresh if you find this area needs adjusting after you start using it or it starts to get neglected and needs a little extra love!
