Home Management Notebook

I know y’all have gotten your Family Command Center in order! So, now let’s talk about the Home Management Notebook,

a key player in a successful Command Center.

  • This notebook will house all pertinent family/house info. that your family may need at a moment’s notice.

  • I use a spiral bound notebook with an area to list personal info. and a 12 month calendar for quick reference. I add in pocket folders and dividers to help keep it organized. Let’s go through the target areas to include and you can decide what will best fit your needs. I’ve linked my favorite products below. I’ll indicate the need for those pocket folders in each section so you’ll know just how many you should have.

  • Label each section as indicated below

    • Personal Information: Anything from doctor’s phone numbers, emergency contacts, maybe easy places to order food from. Contact info. your kids can use if they are able to stay home alone or that a baby-sitter can access if needed.

    • Birthdays/Anniversaries: This doesn’t need to be a full 12-month calendar. But maybe a one sheet calendar to glance at with another page of ‘Important Dates’. You can always highlight the day of the smaller calendar so you can know when something is coming up.

    • Cash:  Whether you need a tip for a delivery driver or a neighborhood kiddo comes by with a fundraiser (hard to skip past donating when you see a child working towards something like this these days!). Having a small amount of cash accessible is always helpful. (Pocket Folder)

    • Wifi Cards:  Simple cards with your wifi name and password (this can share a space with cash if need be). Perfect for weekend guests or friends that stop by. (Pocket Folder)

    • Stamps/Address Labels: In a world of email inboxes that are overflowing, the need to send some snail mail is still there! Having these staples available will make it seem like less of a hassle. (Pocket Folder)

    • Birthday/Thank you cards: Keep from forgetting special dates or using a ‘Dang it, I keep forgetting to grab a card’ excuse. Have a few birthday, thank you or ‘just because’ cards on hand so you’re ready to go the extra mile when needed. (Pocket Folder)

    • Business Cards: For home, personal use or business, it’s always good to keep these on hand. You never know when you’ll need to remember someone that took the time to offer you a service and their number didn’t make it into your contacts. (Pocket Folder)

    • Keys: Whether it’s a mail key, extra car key or house key, don’t waste time searching for it. Let’s be honest, normally it’s an emergency when you’re looking for an extra key! I use binder clips and key rings to hook them onto this portion of the notebook.

    • Notes: Miscellaneous section

  • One other notebook we keep handy is a ‘Gift Notebook’ with a label for each family member. How many times do you hear your kids say, ‘I want this’ or ‘I need this’ and your response is ‘Put it on your Christmas or Birthday list’?! Then, when the time comes they can’t remember anything they said. You can either jot the ideas down as they say them or have each member write down their own ideas. When it’s time to go shopping, you have a list of wanted/needed things and aren’t wasting money on junk that you’ll have to get rid of later!

  • Just one more step in calming the chaos throughout your home! If you’re still needing to get that Family Command Center set up, don’t hesitate to contact us for a consultation!
