Organizing a Move
Moving can be a stressful time and organizing all of your belongings can seem like a daunting task. With some planning and preparation, it can be manageable and decrease the overwhelm of it all. Here are some simple steps to follow:
4. Gather packing supplies: Purchase or gather boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and other supplies you will need for packing.
5. Notify important parties: Inform your utility companies, post office, and other important parties of your change of address.
6. Hire a moving company: If you are using a moving company, research and book one in advance to ensure availability on your moving date.
7. Pack strategically: Start packing items you don't use often first. Remember to pack fragile items carefully and consider using extra padding for protection. Label boxes with the contents and the room they belong in, this is probably one of the most important parts of the process so let’s dig into this a little more!
Use a labeling system: Decide on a system for labeling boxes, such as color-coding by room or numbering them in order of importance.
Label clearly: Use a thick, dark marker to label boxes clearly and legibly, making sure to include the contents and the room they belong in.
Label on multiple sides: Write the label on at least two sides of each box, so that you can easily identify the contents, regardless of how the box is stacked.
Use stickers or tape: Consider using stickers or colored tape to make it easy to identify boxes by room or category.
Prioritize labeling: Label boxes as you pack them, rather than waiting until the last minute. This will save you time and help you stay organized during the move.
