Space Planning
I wanted to share a piece of the design puzzle that you may not realize is as important as it really is: SPACE PLANNING.
This involves everything from where outlets will go, how tall or wide cabinets can be, where a closet rod will be hung, door swing area, creating enough room for a certain mirror or sconce-the list can go on and on! All of this is so necessary so that when you move back into your completed space, there is no stone left unturned, and you have all that you need to enjoy not only the aesthetic, but also the functionality of your space.
Here is an image of a closet renovation we’re working on. With the shape of the space we had, we needed to make sure there is room for cabinetry, shelving, and hanging space the client is wanting to specifically fit her clothes, shoes and bags.
We’re also able to ‘hide’ things like the dirty clothes hamper and hanging clothes by making space for cabinetry and a mirror right as you open the door.
We’ve made room to add in outlets so that she can have her steamer and iron right next to her clothes when needed.
This example is for a guest room renovation. This client wanted a specific armoire she already owns to have a home in here. We made sure to design all the other necessities around this, so it would fit.
Hiring a designer when you have specific needs during a renovation or redesign is so important. Spacing alone can make or break what pieces can fit, how the room will flow and function, and if you will achieve the look you are really going for.
